Big Bass Tournament: 2012

2012 Big Bass Tournament:

This year's first place winner will be paid $600.Second place pays $150 and third place pays $50.

2011 Big Bass Winner Brad Shields

Since everyone's scale can weigh a bit different (I have seen them off by more than a pound) we will use length to determine our winner this year. Please bring a "Check it Stick" or similar with you (see pic below). Moreover, we will have an identifier that needs to appear in the photo with you. This year's identifier will be a set of keys or single key in the photo with the fish.

This year's rules will be:

*Contest starts January 27th and ends April 30th.

*All club lakes qualify

*A picture of the fish on a "check it" stick or similar. The fish should be facing left with the mouth closed. (see photo below)

*Do not pinch tail. Measure to the closest ¼ inch. (Do not use ruler, tape measure etc..)

*Picture should be sent within 48 hours of trip

*Include the unique identifier (this year it is keys) in the picture.

*In the event of a tie, the person who paid their contest fee first wins.

*Contest fee is $25

* Contest entry must be submitted and approved by the club office PRIOR to catching the fish, either through email or by phone.

Rough Creek Lodge-lower prices

We are pleased to announce reduced fishing rates at Glen Rose Rough Creek Lodge. Mallard Lake, the 80 acre lake is one of the largest and most underrated lakes in the club. In August of 2010 PWF shocked 4 club lakes and RCL had the healthiest fish population of any of the 4 club lakes we shocked. We shocked Sadler, no longer in the club, Decatur Beaver Lake; a club favorite, and Cleburne Six O Ranch; perhaps the most popular lake in the entire club. The fish were healthy and the percentage of larger fish was greater than the other lakes. In fact, we shocked a 9 lb female that would have weighed 11 lbs in the spring of this year. It is very unusual to shock a fish this large in the summer.  We felt the day rate of $125 was simply too high; which kept many of you away. The new day rate is only $75.00 for a full day and $50.00 for a half day; with a two person minimum. You will need to bring your own boat and make sure you check in at the Beretta Room at RCL. A great day of fishing would be to fish Cleburne-Six O Ranch in the morning; drive 30 minutes south to RCL have a great lunch at the lodge and catch the evening bite at RCL. For those of you who have always wanted to fish Mallard Lake at Rough Creek Lodge and felt it was just too expensive, it just got a lot easier to fish.

Big Bass Tournament Update

Brad Shields dodged a bullet this week as member, Jerry Edwards caught a 10+ pounder at San Saba Waco Creek this past Monday.  Fortunately for Brad, Jerry is not entered in the tournament.  View Jerry's fishing report on line.

Only one weekend remaining in the tourney.  There's still time to place!  Good luck to all of those fishing this weekend and we hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Brad Shields continues to hold 1st place with this catch from San Saba Waco Creek Ranch.

Andrew Fitzhugh landed this 9lb 10oz monster at Glenrose Rough Creek Lodge. This fish would have gone well over 10lbs during the spawn.  Rough Creek is a very healthy fishery.

Bill Morris is still holding 3rd place with his 7.29lb bass caught at Weston SW Lake.

There's still time to catch the winner. The contest runs until June 1st.  The entry fee is only $20 dollars and you must be signed up before you catch the big one.  Contact the club office before your next outing and we can add you to the competition.
