The wife and I fished Ashworth Farms (Big Tank) the morning of 8/7. We were on the water by 6:45 and started with topwaters and buzzbaits with no luck. We did catch a few good fish on slow rolled spinners and swimbaits. The bite did not turn on for us until about 10:00. I switched to the ultra-lite rod and road-runners with curly tails grubs and started cleaning up, catching everything from fingerlings to a 2 pounder. The wife started having luck wacky rigging the swimbaits. In all we caught over 20 fish before the sun chased us off.
The water level is as high as I have seen it in a few years and we were able to get the boat to all parts of the lake without draggiing bottom. Water clarity seemed to be about 3 feet or more. The surface vegetation is not a problem at all. The entire bottom of this lake is covered with about 1’-1.5’ of vegetation, in the shallows and the deep end of the lake, providing good cover but fishing anything not weedless can be frustrating.
