Oakwood - Lake Leon
Description:
This 100-acre lake sits on a 3700-acre ranch southwest of Palestine. It is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from downtown Dallas and downtown Houston.
The lake was built in the 20s, but reworked in 1997. It was stocked with various forage fish including copper nose bluegill. Shortly thereafter it was stocked with Florida strain bass. This lake might have more flooded timber than any other lake in the club.
During the summer and Fall this is the lake is 50% full of lily pads an is an incredible fluke and frog lake. Members should expect good numbers of bass with a few large ones mixed in. The lake record, caught in February 2008, is 12 pounds! (see member photos on our website)
This is due to the landowner's dedication to maintaining a top-notch bass fishery. He is active in stocking forage fish to keep the lake in balance.
Bank fishing is impossible due to the surrounding trees, but large fiberglass bass boats can be launched. 2 Flat bottom aluminum jon boats (14ft, 16ft) are also available upon request.
Directions:
Southwest of Palestine, east of I-45. App. 2 hours and 15 minutes (125 miles) south of downtown Dallas. App. 2 1/2 hours (155 miles) north of downtown Houston.

Landowner will take you down to the lake.

Site Closed for hunting season, Nov 1st, 2011 through Feb 5th, 2012.
24 HOUR NOTICE IS REQUIRED TO FISH THIS SITE.
The landowner meets you at the property gate. Please submit your planned arrival time in the note section of the reservation system's final page.
Two person minimum to fish this site. If using landowner's jon boat, make sure you use the smaller 14 foot boat on the bank and not the larger one strapped to the dock.
It is mandatory to remove all bass 14" and under at this site. Please report the total # taken and an approximate total weight back to the club office after your outing.

Lodging Description
$75 for 2 people, $25 each additional person (1st night), $25 per person each additional night.
Come and stay at the newly renovated vintage ranch house at Lake Leon. Enjoy the large living area and satellite TV while relaxing after a great day fishing. The house can lodge up to 9 individuals or 6 couples with 4 bedrooms. Room 1 has 1 queen size bed and 1 twin. Room 2 has 2 twin size beds. Room 3 contains 1 regular or double bed. Room 4 has 2 twins and 1 bunk bed with twins. The living area also has a queen size hideaway. Full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, central heat and air, linens and towels provided. Be sure to bring some house shoes or something to wear inside the house. No outdoor shoes allowed.
