I fished with member Jon Waters at Hat and Star. Water surface temperature was 84 degrees. Water visibility is 6 feet. We caught about 25 fish with 21 dinks. One fish was 2 lbs, another 3.5 lbs and the two largest fish went 4.13 and 5.7. We each broke off very large fish. The lake is full of timber and the big fish know here to go when hooked. Don’t bring 10 lb mono and expect to land a big fish. I would either use 20 lb flourocarbon or braid. Most of the fish came on jigs, Texas rigged swim Senkos and Texas rigged creature baits. The lake is very deep for an east Texas lake and the big fish are deep, so it is very hard to finesse fish with weightless or wacky rigs. Stay on the dam 1/2 of the lake (east side) in the deep water. The lake held true to form, lots of little fish with a shot at a big one or two. Hold on at this lake, because a fish of a lifetime will be caught by several members this year and the years to come. This is probably not the lake to bring an inexperienced angler. Big fish bite subtle, fight hard and are already in the deep water.

We also fertilized the lake, hoping for a plankton bloom, which will reduce the visibility of the clear water.

Hi Steve,
We went fishing here about four days after you did and had almost identical results as I mentioned to Brian. The only thing I would add is that, after talking to the owner, he mentioned that the lake was over six feet low and that is why there was so much exposed timber that made parts of the lake unavailable. Our feeling was that the fish seemed to be a little stressed. I think this place will be great when water levels come up.
