Fished Yates Place with my brother in law from Gainesville, GA. We visited with DeWayne Yates briefly before launching and were told that the bass were chasing shad, particularly around the island and in a stretch from the sweet gum to the buoy markers. DeWayne suggested lipless crankbaits. Blue skies with light variable wind; 3/4 moon the night before. Water was rust colored with visibility about 4’. Water temp in the main lake @ 83-85 and in the shallow ends up to 93. We caught a couple on Blue/White Terminators, then switched to Chrome Big Eye Shad and Blue/Chrome Rattletraps and had better success, but nothing over 16”. Brother in law did connect with a nice fish, estimated 5+, on the Big Eye Shad, but the fish threw the lure at the boat. After noon we went to Carolina rigged flukes in Smokin’ Shad and caught a number of small fish in front of the pier and around the island. Harvested 20 fish and had a great time. Brother in law took home the bragging rights with the most fish and the largest @ 3 3/4 #. DeWayne keeps the property in great condition and is always helpful, cordial and a great host.
