Ron Dupree and I bank-fished Thorndale Bremmond from 1:30 – 6:00 on April 16th.  We caught 26 bass (Ron dominating) with 20 of them harvested.  Most of the harvested fish were 10-12”.  The largest returned bass was about 15”.  Moving baits accounted for 23 of the bass and Ron did most of the damage using a small underspin.  A few fish were caught with a chatterbait or a Trick worm. The north bank was the most productive area where some minnows were being chased against the shoreline. There is very minimal lake bottom vegetation (short 1-2” tall in spots). The bass looked like silver torpedoes with minimal coloration.

Thorndale Bremmond is advertised to range between10 and 18 acres and anglers are advised to be prepared for variable water levels.  We have fished this lake both when it was close to 18 acres and the timber was extensively flooded and when it had shrunk to maybe 10 acres and caught bass in both situations. This section of central Texas continues to suffer an extended drought. The lake is currently only 5 acres in extent with all of the timber on dry land. The lake is so low that the crushed rock ramp ends over 15 feet from the water. The gentle slope and soft soil past the end of the rock made that a no-go for launching a 16-foot aluminum boat.  We unsuccessfully tried a steeper spot to the east where firmer dry soil extended to within a foot of the shoreline but the trailer tires instantly sunk alarmingly into the wet soil at the water’s edge.  Kayaks and smaller boats without trailers would fare better.

I was there not long ago and did get my boat in. It took me over an hour to get out. You made the wise choice.
