I had fished this lake twice before. The first time was a learning experience, the second time it was chocolate milk. This time, I unlocked it’s potential. It was very weedy, as always. When I got there at sunrise, there were a lot of blow ups all over the lake. I started throwing a frog from the bank, and got one in the three and one in the four pound range. I set up my boat, and threw the frog some more, landing two more, losing one, and had one break me off. I proceeded to fish the weed edges, and virtually everything I threw worked. I spent much of the day letting the wind drift me along the open water along the dam, from one side to the other. I caught/lost fish on spinnerbaits, senko’s, chatter bait, jerk bait, frogs, urchin bait, but the star of the day was a weed less under spin. Every fish was a battle. They would go down in the weeds, and I would have to wrestle them out. It was 100 degrees, and by the end of the day, I was exhausted. My daughter came over from Lubbock at about 730 pm, and she caught a couple on a Senko and Plopper at Mesquite at sunset. Good start to a 3 day trip. I caught at least 25, and lost at least that many due to my own ineptness. Exceptionally healthy fish with very sharp teeth!
