I fished the second lake in the string on the morning of 4/12 and had moderate success.  We pulled two 5 pounders off beds with top waters, and caught another dozen all under 16” almost all on topwater before the wind came up and severely hampered our bait presentation.  There appeared to be plenty of bait and fish but I have to say they weren’t as aggressive as I anticipated.  I think perhaps the bigger lakes are where I will head next.

Hey Phillip- you will have a great time. Senkos and soft plastics and various jig presentations will all get bit out there, lot’s of timber. I use braid in the heavy stuff. Natural colors worked great. There is not a ton of water for treble hooks due to timber and grass, but I am sure you can get bit on a square bill too. Enjoy!

I fished Monday (Homeplace) and Tuesday (Leakey) this week (4/21 - 4/22). I’ll post a full report later this week, but here’s a quick report. We landed 80 on Homeplace, scattered throughout the lake. I saw lots of empty beds and assumed the lake was post spawn. Fish were everywhere. That lake is very similar to Beaver and would expect similar conditions. TX rigged senkos will work well. I flipped lots of timber and brush with good success. We also saw some brief top water action around 6:30.

Leakey was less productive. I saw 7 or 8 clouds of fry and two beds still occupied (including one BIG female staging). We landed 20 fish over 6 hours. No real pattern.

One note on Hawg. I fished that lake last April and found the creek that runs to the west of the lake to be loaded with fish. They were all small, and you have to work to get a boat back into the creek, but it was fun to catch 20 fish in 30 minutes.

Good luck!

Those two lakes will give you a good feel for the two types of lakes at 10-10. Beaver is a newer lake, with a ridiculous amount of timber and brush. In most places, it’s tight fishing. I’d recommend setting up with heavy braid, a 1 oz tungsten bullet weight, a heavy duty flipping hook and a craw-dad and punching into the thick stuff. Make sure to have a strong rod to haul the fish out of the cover. You’ll certainly find some fish buried deep in the brush.

Beaver is full as well. This might make it easier to get through/over some of the brush than in the past.

Hawg is the other type of lake at 10 - 10. It’s completely open with lots of structure. Reading the lake carefully (electronics help) will lead to you finding the fish is they are no longer holding tight to the shoreline.

You’re gonna have a great time. This property is very, very cool. Tommy and Craig are fantastic people. Be sure to get a look at the taxidermy in the lobby of the main house. Go find some big ones out there!
