My friend Rob and I took advantage of a beautiful Friday afternoon and went fishing. We arrived around 12:30 and fished till about 7:00 pm. The water was stained and a little lower than it was two weeks ago but the action was good.

Rob started with a C-rig the first part of the afternoon and was getting the bites but the hook ups were intermittent so i suggested he try my technique which was the drop shot. Once he switched over the catches increased and his numbers went up. I  tried a jig and trailer a little off and on but fished primarily with the drop shot. The wind came up a little around 4 pm so I switched to a little square bill and did okay. By the end of the day we had approximately 40 fish between us and harvested ~ 12. Most of the fish we caught were 15-17 inch range, I think Rob had an 18 inch as the biggest.

No sir we walked the bank. It was pretty dry around the perimeter and there was hardly any grass in the water to deal with. The boats are not what I would recommend to use. One is a canoe and the other is like a little paddle boat from what I remembered.

Are you fishing the drop shot on heave or light tackle and line?

Hello Steve, yes i would say it is light compared to what i normally fish. I use 8-10 lb stren on a spinning rod and reel. Mostly with a 1/4 oz pencil drop shot weight if the wind is light about 16 inches below my hook. I like to whacky hook stick worms or ochos and color does not seem to matter but Amistad Special is my favorite on a sunny day.
