I have been looking forward to fishing this lake since they joined the club about a year ago. Finally made it out there and it is certainly worth the drive. Mr. Yates is completely committed to making this the best bass lake anywhere.  We arrived Tuesday afternoon late and got a chance to look around. Mr. Yates showed us the pictures of the building of the lake and pointed out some of the better spots.

Water temps ranged from 84 in the morning to 91 in the late afternoon. Water clarity is about perfect. Lake was down about 2 feet. They really need some water in East Texas.  Lake being down was not an issue given the depth the lake.  With the water temps where they are, we concentrated on the submerged brush piles he assembled when they built the lake. No fish on the shoreline at all. They were buried in the deep brush. Plastics, mostly green, were the only thing they would hit.  Senkos worked well. They hit consistently most of the day.  We had two just under 6 and three at about 5.  Lost one about 7-8lbs.  We harvested 36 under 16”.  I estimate about 30 lbs taken out.

The accomodations are outstanding. Very clean and well prepared by the owners.  They even shared some vegetables out of the garden with us. We had a great time. No doubt about going back.

Bill is an excellent fisherman and someone that catch’s good fish about everywhere he goes. When you catch 41+ fish in this heat, you have really done something. My guess is that Bill caught several fish in the 2.5 to 5 lb size that are not mentioned in this report.

Mr. and Mrs. Yates are two people who love to share both their resources and time with our members. I feel very fortunate to call them friends. Yates Place will revival San Saba Waco Creek Ranch for our top lake this year. It will take a lot to unseat San Saba with hits rich history; but if there is a lake in the club that could do it, it would probably be Yates Place. Both Yates Place and San Saba have only had a couple of trips for the past 30 days. If you can stand the heat, you can probably catch some nice fish.

Thanks for the comments Steve. I appreciate the effort you put into adding lakes like this to the club. These two lakes certainly rank at the top in my book for lunkers. They are both very different lakes to fish. I love that these owners are passionate about making these lakes great fisheries and not just focused on leasing them out to the club members.  This lake is worth taking the heat for.

Phillip, we handle night fishing on a case by case basis.  We have gotten clearance for a night fish at Longbranch Yates Place later on this month.  We’ll see how it goes for that group.  Due to safety concerns, we will never be able to offer night fishing at San Saba Waco Creek.

Mr. Yates mentioned the upcoming night fishing outing, so I think he is interested to see how this goes.  Might be interesting given the cooler water temps at night.
