We fished Yates Place on Wednesday and this lake is about 20 minutes from there, so we booked them together and fished a half day on this lake on 7/7. This lake is spring fed, so the water was full and clear. Water clarity was about 4 feet, but it had a dark stain, typical of East Texas. Very nice looking water. Most of the lake is 10-15 feet deep, so the water clarity was not an issue.
The water temp was a little cooler than Yates place due to the spring water I expect. It ranged from about 84-87. The lake looks to be about 50 acres. Lots of overhanging trees around the far shoreline. Grass beds for the most part on the other side. The lake is full of very large (1 lb) Bluegill. A beetle spin and ultralight gear and your busy for hours. We caught about 25 of these. Most of the bass tended to be small and under the 12” harvest size. We harvested 26 fish which I estimate to be about 10 lbs. We caught 4 that were in the 2 lb range. Small spinner baits and beetle spins seemed to work best. We did catch several bass on purple worms. The owner stopped by and said they caught a couple about 4 lbs the week before. We did not have time to look for structure in the deeper water, which is where I expect the larger fish were.
We expected to catch mostly small ones given the need to harvest alot of them out of the lake. For the middle of the summer, and a half day’s fishing, we caught alot of fish and had a great time. This is a beautiful lake and an outstanding setting. The owner has invested a significant amount of money in the accomodations. They are second to none that I have seen in the club. They were starting the building of a Pavilion today. Excellent place to get the kids out and catch a ton of fish. I would definitely recommend adding this to a trip to Yates Place. We’ll go back.
