I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun not catching that many fish.  Fished Lakeside with my good buddy and new member Brett Stalkup yesterday.  We spend about as much time jawboneing and telling stories as we did fishing and it was just a great day.  Brett and I have known each other for about 30 years but don’t get to much time together and especially not in such a great environment – yesterday was just a gift.  Ok about the fishing… when we got there it was about 31 degrees and we were dressed like we were going hunting instead of hopping on our paddleboards.  Sun came up and out and warmed us a bit but it was chilly most of the day.  The water was pretty murky today – at Lakeside it can vary pretty significantly from really pretty clear to pretty murky.  We both are fly rod guys and I think the flies do better in clearish water.  Today is one of those days where I think conventional gear with something like a chatterbait would have worked well.  I was looking for a big one for the Big Bass Contest and I know they are in there.  They are still in there.  We landed 2 bass around 3 pounds each on blgger black wooly buggers about 20 yards down the shoreline from the corner of the dam on the far side of lake.  When we weren’t goofing off we ended up fishing the whole lake and just couldn’t find or get the fish to bite but we had a great time catching old stories.
