West Texas Anglers your wait is over. Private Water Fishing has been looking for lake opportunities west of DFW for our members who live in Lubbock, Amarillo and all places west of Fort Worth. You now have a place closer to home. Claud Ayres Reservoir located near Vernon Texas, is a 25-acre lake is in a place where water is scarce and well managed bass fishing lakes are not common.

This fishery is spring fed and was drained in 2019 and restocked in 2020. Today the lake has aeration, multiple fish feeders, is stocked yearly with additional bluegill and shad. The bass genetics are F1 Tiger Bass from American Sportfish. Our electrofish survey produced bass that averaged 125% of relative weight. (This means the fish are 25% fatter than normal.)

The lake has a concrete boat ramp, and a floating dock.

As of April 20, 2023 the lake is 8 feet low and launching a full size fiberglass boat is not possible as the concrete ramp is out of the water. However 2 loads of rock have been added to the end of the ramp, which will allow lighter (16 foot and smaller) aluminum boats to be launched. We are in the need of a few good rains to raise the lake level just 2-3 feet which will allow members to launch all boats.

The mini pontoon boat may have a battery and trolling motor. If it does, do not use it. Please bring your own trolling motor and battery.
