Does anyone know the name of the company that made the 2 man plastic boat at Julian Lake?  I didn’t take down the name, but it is visible on the side of the boat.  The width and roominess make it preferable to my 10’ ft. Pelican.  Thanks for your help!

If memory serves me it is a Pelican “Predator” model which flares out in the middle to be much wider than your standard pelican bass buster style.

i looked up the pelican predator, and i have fished out of one of these before. the boat WAS very comfortable, but i could not figure why the front trolling motor mount is so far from seat. i like to do my trolling from front. the boat hull is great and i would have probably bought this one instead of my bass buster except for the trolling motor mount in such a bad location. as i stated in an earlier post, as i age the bass buster is getting hard to move around in. so if any of you have boats that are easy to dock at our lakes and roomy . please let me know

Phillip, take a look the the Bass Hunter, Bass Baby - kind of the standard width deck, but lots of room on each side of the seats for storage of tackle and rods.  I have the Bass Hunter EX and the Bass Baby models….by far, I prefer the Bass Baby model.  It is especially nice for launching due to the built-in wheels - just grab the front handles and roll it down to the water.  The boat is rotationally molded plastic so no hard plastic to crack.  If you are looking for a one-man rig, you might also consider the Pond King - made outside of Gainesville - an aluminum pontoon version.

Best thing to do is go to an old boat yard or boat repair shop and find an old aluminum boat like a 16 ft. Tracker that has a bad motor, offer for the boat only and see what you can do $. Take that heavy motor off and you have a boat that is fairly easy to get in and out of the water and will have all the room you could ever stand. That’s what I am going to do.

Phillip,

The boat at Julian was a bit wider than my Pelican and had a lower storage shelf on the sides.  I particularly liked that feature, as I am concerned about kicking a rod off the pelican due to the higher profile.  All around, the boat just had more room due to the width.  The troll motor mount didn’t give me a problem, but I suppose it is designed that way to accomodate the angled bow deck area. I liked that feature, as well.  It seemed much less cramped than my Pelican.

Thanks for everyone’s comments and good fishing!

Tom
