Shaun Cobb and I fish dawn to dusk with a 2 hour break from 1:30p-3:30pm.
Total: 13
Harvested 6
Big fish: 2.5lb
In the morning we fished the shallow fingers on the opposite side of the lake from the dam. We picked up a few fish on crankbaits and wacky worms. Nothing on topwater.
About 8am the entire center section of the lake had bass busting up pods of fry and bait fish. We picked up 2 fish in the early going by sight fishing basically. Then the most amazing thing happened…......they would not hit ANYTHING we threw at them. These fish fed all day but would rarely take the variety of bait fish replicas we tossed at em.
We caught 7 before the break and 6 in the afternoon and evening. It was partly cloudy and the temp reached the low 90’s. Water temp was 82. Steady wind at 10-15 but gusts approaching 20.
We used Shaun’s new Lowrance fish finder and it worked great. We saw the fish suspended at 8-10 below the surface.
Question: Anyone have advice/tip for suspened fish that are targeting pods but seem reluctant to strike other offerings? Heck, we even threw and Alabama rig at them it didn’t work either…not sure how you can match that hatch better than that.
Good fishin’......

I’ve fished Bull Shoals Lake in MO and AR, and the lake knowledge said that if the fish were suspended, they were not feeding. But…they tended to suspend at the thermocline in 25-30 feet of water, and we caught many trolling large-billed crankbaits. Others were successful jigging spoons if they could find schools of shad. How that translates for a small lake I don’t know. If the water is clear, perhaps spooks. If not trolling crankbaits or twisted-tail grubs might spark some action. I’ve caught several fish at SW Weston Lake throwing a 6-8 ft diving crankbait into the middle of the lake. Jim
