We went to check things out and see what the lake is like. We found a window in the storms and arrived at 7 AM to cloudy skies, light winds, and 70 degree water. Easy to launch from the rock ramp. Water was really stained from the rain and visibility was a few inches.
The dam has rip rap the full length and a shad spawn was happening for the first hour. Bass were blitzing the schools and we could see shad jump out of the water to escape. We caught one fat 15 incher and a nice crappie. Both were caught on clouser flies right off the bank. We spent an hour more trying to hook up, but the low visibility made things tough. We decided to explore the rest of the lake and beat the weeedline hoping to find a frog eater. We didn't have much luck until we hit the east side, just south of the pond. We found 4 fish hanging of the weed line with a 4 pounder eating a spinner bait. We called it a noon to try and beat the approaching storms.
We hoped for better fishing, but the fish won this time. I'd love to try again when we have a dry spell and water cleans up some.
