A first for me fishing the lakes on the Cody Ranch. Zero fish caught on Acker Lake.
Arrived at noon and fished til dark.
Weather was cool (30’s in the morning and 60’s in the afternoon).
Wind was light with a few gusts of around 15 mph straight out of the North.
Lake is very high due to collecting runoff from the recent rains.
Water clarity was poor, again due to the recent rain runoff, especially on the North side of the lake (where in the past I have caught most of my fish). Much clearer on the Southside of the lake.
Weeds are starting to show around most of the lake and with the higher lake level where more difficult to detect. Weeds limited somewhat the tackle used and parts of the lake that could be fished.
I assume the poor outing in respect to lack of catching fish on a beautiful day in April was the lack of water clarity (and not the skill of the fisherman).
Did have one blow-up on a top water in the evening but after 7 hours of zero bites I totally missed the fish.
On the brighter side, I met Mr. Cody at the gate while driving in. He is the defintion of a gentleman rancher and could not have been kinder. I really enjoyed our visit and thanked him for letting PWF members acess his ranch and fish the lakes.
I’ll be back to the Cody Ranch (knowing my fishing luck can only improve.)

We had a similar situation a week prior at Acker. A weak front came through about 8:30 in the morning and shut the bite down. The lake had been fishing very good all weekend until that point.
I agree about Steve Cody, a first class guy!
