Fishing with my buddy Larry Blanchard today. He and I were on the water around 8:30 and left around 3:30. Weather was nice and started at 58 and finished around 80 when we left. The water Temperature was between 70 and 74°. The breeze was mild with a few gusts, but otherwise an absolutely beautiful day to be on the lake. When we first arrived, a rather large otter was spotted at the boat ramp and then swam to the other side. That put a damper on our optimism for the day and proved correct as it was generally slow. Our total for the day was only 12 between us and typically this lake produces many more than that. we did catch a 4 1/2 pound female that was spawning as well as a couple of males that also had spawning wounds. A few more nice fish between two and 3 pounds but nothing small enough to cull. This lake has produced some large fish for me the last couple of years but today it just didn't happen. The chatter bait was the best bait that we threw as well as a tx rig senko for most of our catch. The color we used was white with a red craw trailer and they did seem to like that. We just did not have a lot of luck finding more. The lily pads usually produce several on the frog but we only had a couple of short strikes. The water was fairly stained with visibility between one and 3 feet. The lake was also quite full compared to its normal level. Hopefully the otters do not damage The fish population but it is a problem that I see more often in east Texas lakes than ever before. Still one of my favorite lakes that I will try again later in the year. Thanks to the property owner for having such a beautiful well kept place. It is always enjoyable.
