We enjoyed Red Hollow at the beautiful ranch in Whitt on Saturday from around 7:30 to 5:30 on a mild, partly cloudy day with a comfortable breeze. Lakes are full with 2FT viz in the main lake and 6IN viz in the back lake. My fish finder was on the blink so I am unsure of the water temp – I do know 3 or so of the harvested fish still had eggs. We landed 42 from dinks to 3.25 LBS – including about 10 over 2.4 LBS. “Doubled-up” a couple of times as well, which is always fun! Most effective lures were: weightless soft jerkbait in shad or watermelon red – it was pretty much the only thing that we could work somewhat effectively with the plentiful filamentous algae. The fish were relating to the bank, but a number of the “better” fish were out from the weed edge – but even for those, they still only wanted the weightless, fluke-style bait. We caught fish around the full perimeter of the main lake and only spent about 20 or 30 minutes in the back lake without any success there this time. Enjoyed a nice shore lunch given the great weather and nice breeze.
