I arrived at Post Oak “late” and wasn’t on the water until almost an hour after sunrise yet still enjoyed almost two hours of topwater action.  My first two were hooked on a Zara Spook and then seven more on a Whopper Plopper. The creek area was the best producer. Although there wasn’t a lot of visible surface activity, the bass were obviously looking up at the dragonflies.  I had about half the blowups as soon as the lure hit the water.  These had a lower hookup ratio than strikes during a retrieve because the reel wasn’t engaged yet.  During this period, I couldn’t get a strike with any other type of lure.  After 9:15, the bite changed and I started picking up scattered fish from all around the lake using a chatterbait, underspin, or creature bait. About 1 in 4 of the hookups came right at the boat with little line out. I ended the morning boating 19 with seven harvested.  Most of the others were about 15” with 2 over 3# and one over 4#.

It was extremenly quiet and peacefull at the ranch, I never saw anyone except the deer. The lake is full but no longer flowing over the spillway.  Shoreline vegetation is expanding but submerged vegetation is still minimal or small.  The area around the lake hasn’t been mowed in a long time and bank fishing may become a little tougher than it has been historically.
