Fished a cold bluebird sky morning at Weston from about 8 - 10:30.  The lake is down about 5 feet or so and was kinda muddy.

There is a bad leak in the boat.  I noticed some water gathering behind the front deck.  I checked the plug and it did not appear to be leaking.

I caught 3 bass between 1 - 2.5 #s on a red lip-less crank-bait (H2O Express).  Then I accidentally snagged a huge carp in the tail and fought it for about a minute before it jumped about 2 feet out of the water and threw my bait.  I never knew that a carp could jump like that.

Then I noticed more water gathering behind the front deck and the front end was filling up and nosing down and becoming unstable.  So I parked the boat and bank fished until about 10:30.  Lost my rattle bait on a brush pile but no other fish.  I saw several large carp sunning in the shallows.

Sorry you had boat issues. The boat is a bit front heavy. So, here is what is happening. We bildge all the water out of the boat and we a single member fish, his weight along with the weight of the deck, his battery and gear combined with nobody in the back make the boat lean forward. So much, that on occasion it takes on water over the front. Then the issue becomes compounded, when it has taken on some water and the water moves to the front of the boat when we have another single fisherman and no weight in the back. I think we are going to have to add some weight to the back, to counter balance. The water in the boat only happens when one man is fishing up front and nobody in the back. We will get the bildge and pump the water out. Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks Steve.  Also, it would be nice if the trolling motor battery cable was longer to be able to put the battery further back instead of under the seat.  I think it used to be in the back.  I’ve fished solo here before and didn’t have this problem.  Otherwise, the boat is great.

Paul,

We did just that today. We ran new cable so the battery connection is in the back. With the battery weight in the back and not the front; should make the boat more balanced and eliminate the water coming over the front.
