Lures Used : 90% Caught on Chatterbait
Waco Creek Ranch is such a beautiful property. Good friend, and PWF member, Gary Whisenhunt and I spent 1 ½ days fishing, and had a blast. The lake was up to full level, and leafy vegetation came out from the bank around most of the lake. It was perfect for chatterbait fishing, and that’s what caught 90% of our fish. We used a green chatterbait on Thursday, and a white chatterbait on Friday, and both worked. Other lures caught a few fish – topwater, soft plastics, and caught a crappie on a crankbait. But the chatterbait was king, by far.
Some great experiences and memories. Gary and I caught two of our largest fish the first day on our last casts at the same time on the point across from the launch (see picture). We caught several large fish there on the trip. I caught our largest fish at 5.14 there (see picture). One of the cool experiences we had with the chatterbaits was dropping them and fishing them on the bottom like a worm. We just had to find concentrations of fish to do this. We caught over 20 in one area in the far right arm of the lake from the launch using this method (see map). It was really windy on Friday, and we had to tie up to a tree to stay in the spot – a picture of the tree is attached – the spot is on the right side of the boat. This also worked in an area in the far left end of the lake from the launch. Other than these two areas, we just had to throw the chatterbait along the edge of the leafy vegetation by the bank, and bring it back on top. Worked like a charm!
If you get an opportunity to fish this property, you should do it. It’s the bass fishing experience of a lifetime.
