This lake always seems to give me something special, and this visit was no exception, beginning with an epic shad spawn at sunrise. i was drifting and it sprung up all aorund me. it was a wow few moments and i just sat and enjoyed it.Lake is about a foot low and slightly stained with visibilty about 2’. i sensed that the bigger fish were deeper and was determined, again, to seek them out. they weren’t having it. So i resorted to just catching fish. i fished around my spots with various plastics and caught a few 12”-13” fish. Then I went to the old tank dam and started throwing various senkos (and/or wanna-be senkos) at it. the fish were seriously persnickety until i found the magic color. weightless, texas rigged, yamamoto color 323 with a smashed tail (changes the color at the tail), presented dead sticked on top of the dam in the grass. Any other color, or even similar, would just sit. Fail to smash the tail, nothing. but the combo in that color was money. every 2nd or 3rd cast for awhile til i got hungry and went to eat my lunch. Came back, and now its bigger fish, up to the 5+#er i caught. Same bait and presentation. Got 2 at 16”, 2 at 17” an 18”, a 19” and a 21.5”er. The bigger fish were choking it too, and i’d cut off the hook and re-tie so as not to hurt the fish. then i ran out of that style hook (or i”d probably still be there!). time to go home. i cleaned 13. i think it was 87 degrees when i left about 3. what a gorgeous and successful day.

i really love this lake and remain extremely grateful to the owners and PWF for making it avaialable to us. i was going to stop and tell them on my way out but there was a large event of some kind going on and they appeared to be busy so i just waved on my way out.
