Cody Ranch is 3,000 acres, 100 year old family owned property, lodge, and cabin in Southern Oklahoma with cattle ranch, fracking, and oil producing with 10 + fishable lakes with more lakes planned for future. All are stocked with top grade Florida Bass.
Water temps varied on lakes low 70’s to low 80’s.
We fished 9 of the 10 lakes as no one fished Peach Creek.
Water clarity varied between 2-4 feet.
Water levels down 2-4 with exception of Lower Hart which we think is being used for fracking nearby and down 5-6 feet. Only one Jon Boat made it on here.
All participants used their own fishing vessels.
Currie Covington, Paul Brinson, Larry Kennison, Charles Bodden, Nick Savo, and Steve Vandehey all arrived Thursday afternoon and evening. 5 of us fished Thursday.
Larry Kennison primarily fished his fly rod and was very productive!
2 of us did not fish Sunday.
We caught 266 Bass, 2 Bluegill, and culled 133 Bass – ironically 50% of the Bass!
I want to thank this group of men for their helpfulness, food, fun, fellowship, stories, and cleanliness.
This was the best food on any Cody Ranch trip prior by far! We started Thursday evening with grilled Prime Ribeyes, Salad, Dinner rolls, Mashed potatoes, and Macaroni and cheese. Friday lunch was French Dip subs from Crockpot dipped in Au Jus. Friday Dinner was homemade meatloaf, salad, tamales, baby carrots, Idahoan potatoes, and Cherry Pie. Saturday lunch was cold cut sandwiches. Saturday dinner we had more steaks, fish fry, sautéed large Wild Caught Gulf of America shrimp, hush puppies, potatoes, and macaroni and cheese, followed by more cherry pie. Each morning breakfast eggs, bacon, sausage, and various fruits.
Fishing, weather, views, wildlife, were awesome whole trip! I saw the most Dragonflies I've ever seen. They were different colors, shapes, sizes, and all beautiful! It was cool to watch them fly around! They would touch down on the water and fish would strike at them.
Paul Brinson caught the biggest 7.28 lbs. on Lodge lake from bank with smaller black Lune color Whopper Plopper Thursday evening. Paul Brinson also won Big Bass Saturday afternoon with a 3.13 oz! This was Paul’s 1st time winning the Big Bass competition and money!
3.14 oz won Big Bass Friday!
Steve Vandehey caught a 5.3 lbs Thursday afternoon on Acker!
What I've learned:
I will coordinate better next time so we don't over do it on food. We had enough food to feed a small ARMY.
Less is more for fishing with tackle and gear. The main forage in all lakes are Bluegill and frogs in that order. No need to bring so much tackle. It's better to stay with 3 - 4 lure presentations with backup whole trip mimicking the 2 food sources.
We plan to go again in the Fall and therefore quarterly.
Thank you Mr. Cody again for opening your property to us and PWF!
We had a blast!
