Fished Yates PlaceTues and Weds (March12,13)... water was still quite cold… morning temps were in mid 30’s…
Threw everything at them…. Rat-L-Traps (assorted colors), Jerbaits (Sexy Shad/Baby Bass), Top Water (Spooks, Buzz, Pop-N-R’s)... fished lizards, worms, flukes as well… caughts just 15 and all were 12” or less - and almost all on dingers.
I left this place Thurs and temp was suppose to be in 70’s with low 80’s March 15-17 - so this place is probably fixing to get really good. No bass were shallow except the little ones.
Hot spots to be, I believe, are:
There are only two coves on west end of lake - the point between them is a nice hump and has some timber and is probably a great spawning spot. Also, along the west bank to the dam, right in the middle is a nice wide hump of 2-3’ of water.
Off the dam is a quick drop to about 20’. At the eastern edge of main dam there is a small point between main dam ending and another large dam (of a pond above this lake)... it is a small point, but Mr Yates told me that it is a hot spot for lunkers to hang out.
This place was awesome - a place even the wife would love. If not for these cold snaps we’ve been having this year, I think my outing would of led to a lot more fish - bigger fish. No fish were on beds, but I’m sure the fishing here will get good soon.
Good Times
