I made a trip out to Six-O this past Saturday and fished just for Coppernose Bream. They are just about to spawn. I saw something that I had never seen before and would like Walter to address this and see what he thinks is happening.
I came across several large balls of Coppernose bream aprrox; 1-200 hundred in a pod all on the surface and circling around each other. Some were sticking thier heads up out of the water and appearded to be sucking something off of the surface.
You could catch them by throwing into and around the pod of fish. I have never seen this behavior before. Sortly afterwards I came accross a large pod of large shad doing the same thing. These shad seemed to be about a pounds apiece. I have seen shad in balls before but not acting like this. Anybody know what’s going on with this?
We had a great trip . Only fished for 4 hours ( I had a 7 year old with me.) But we all caught fish about 50-60 big bream.

Don,
I’m not sure what maybe causing this. If this shad were one pound, then they were gizzard shad and not threadfin shad. The best web-site that I am aware of that might be able to answer this is www.pondboss.com
