Jackson Bean
Slot Fish
I fished Fannin Farms at the last minute on Friday 3/29. The road to get to the lake was in great shape. Once you get on the bank, the dropoff to the lake is pretty steep. My two wheel drive truck had a tough time pulling the boat out even on the asphalt “boat ramp”. The lake is down at least five feet which made the boat launch quite a challenge. Four wheel drive would have been a big help.
The fishing was hit and miss. I culled sixteen fish and only caught three over fourteen inches with the kicker at over 4 pounds. Crank baits of all types produced the most fish. Small square bills up in the shallows and medium divers out in the open water. There is one spot that’s spitting distance from the boat dock (toward the dam) that held about eight of the fish. I have no idea why they were so concentrated there. Most of the brush piles are halfway out of the water and I only pulled one fish off of the end of one with a Texas rig.
The fish seemed thin though I did see bait fish of some type jumping here and there throughout the day. I fished from 7 am to around 1:30 when the bite seemed to slow.
