Took the grand kids to visit the ranch at Melody Acres. They had a great time as Patty gave them an education about the critters. Fishing was slow on Friday as kids only caught 5. on top water and senkos near the island.  Fish ranged from 15 to 17 inches. They were happy.

Saturday started just as slow but around 3 pm really picked up on the east bank in 2 feet of water. we caught around 20 fish for the afternoon. this included 5 very large sunfish.  only one bass was less than 14 inches.  did not get the evening bite on Saturday as we were busy coloring eggs and making smores. Red shad senkos and lake fork 2 inch shad fished weightless.

The highlight of the trip was Friday night Patty invited them to a honey bee swarm that she was going to move from a bush to a new hive. the kids helped by spraying sugar water and were no less than 10 feet from the swarm. no one was stung and the kids were really excited to help.  What a great place.  The lake is full and going over spill way. we are already thinking about a return trip before the summer’s heat.

Side note, I walked the dam and east bank and saw no beds. Four of the bass were loaded with eggs. my 7 year old grand son caught a 22 incher bass that I estimated at 5 to 6 pounds. I caught 19 incher that felt like 5 pounds. Full of eggs and still in deeper water.
