My brother Chris and I experienced Yates’ place for the first time and it was truly beautiful.  Dewayne and his wife are really nice people and frequently touched base with us to be sure we had everything we needed.  The fishing on the other hand was really tough.  We finished Saturday with three dinks and we threw the tackle box at them.  I couldn’t see any beds in the shallows and the water clarity was about a foot.  On Sunday we had the same story and we were trying everything.  We had one dink and then 11 o’clock rolled around and my brother hooked into a monster.

Then twenty minutes later I hook into a real pig as well.  The sad part is that I then realized my Golden Rule only goes to 22 inches and my fish hung off the end by close to two inches!  Why is that thing so short?!  I guess I never cared until this big bass contest but after closer examination I see that 24 inches would have put me in the running for the current title.  You better believe I’m going to have a longer stick for Marshall this Friday.  So with two big girls landed our very depressing but beautiful trip was salvaged and just before the buzzer at noon.  I couldn’t have asked for a better ending.  Both big fish came on Texas rigged lizards.
