My two East coast fishing buddies came into town for our annual PWF outing; We were excited to head to Heartland and see what this new property was all about.

We fished all four lakes and stayed in the trailer Friday and Saturday night. Overall, this is a very cool property. The ranch is typical East TX piney woods. Heavily covered in timber, you get the feeling of being deep in the woods.

Sat AM we started on Beaver. This lake has tons of downed timber. It was a new fishing experience for me. What was unique was that the lake is new enough that there is lots of smaller branches from the timber that have not had time to rot out. These limbs make it nearly impossible to fish through them, but you can fish the edges effectively. The lake is large enough to fish for a morning, but might get frustrating to fish all day.

The great news is there are three more lakes! We moved over to Homeplace Sat afternoon. Homeplace is very similar to Beaver, with the exception of some channels that were cut in the woods before the lake was flooded. This gives you more fishing area.

Sun am we fished Hog Trough; Sunday afternoon we moved to Leakey. These two lakes are similar to each other. More open and easier to fish. You could spend an entire day on Leakey.

We boated somewhere between 175 - 200 fish over the weekend, with the biggest going 5.5. We had one that was probably 7 or 8 break off. There are some MONSTERS in these lakes. We saw three big fish, including two that were the biggest bass we’ve ever seen. Easily much bigger than 10. If you’re looking to find big fish, and willing to battle through heavy timber to find them, this is the place to go.

The boats are great. Wider, long and stable, they have 4 batteries per boat. Super easy to change lakes and launch the boats.

The trailer is super as well. Very comfortable, with everything you need. We grilled some nice steaks and had a nice visit with the land owner. He’s a great guy and makes you feel like an old friend whose come to visit. Be sure to see the taxidermy in the lobby of his house. It’s pretty unbelievable

Bottom line, this is a huge addition to PWF. Four quality lakes only 2.5 hours east of Dallas. While some of this fishing can be tough, as long as you know what you are getting in to, you’ll have a blast at this place.
