Bill Buchanan
Fry
Had a great time at the 2014 fish fry at 9G on 4/12/14. It was great to get to meet Steve, Keri and all the staff and thanks for putting on such a great spread for all the members.
It was my first time to ever fish this lake. I got on the water a little before 8 and the wind was already howling. I fished the lake clockwise from the ramp and started on the grass beds across from the ramp and worked around the point where I caught 2. The wind was really beginning to whip out of the South on the main body of the lake creating white caps. I crusied along the dam down to the far end of the lake behind the duck blind where I was able to find some semi calm water and caught 4. From there I let the gail force winds blow me back up the other side of the lake. Close the point there was an old wooden crate on the bank. Around that spot I caught 2 more all while fighting the wind between each catch. By this time I was “wind whipped”, but as I got close to the boat ramp I thought I’d try the grass beds once more where I finished out with 1 more at about 11:30 making the day’s total 9.
I weighed all the fish and they ranged from 2 - 2.75lbs each. All were caught on soft plastics in shallow water and the color of the day was anything watermelon red. I tried a few crank baits with no results and the fish would only follow spinner baits curiously up to the boat.
All in all it was great to get out and meet some new members and fellow kayakers.
