I grew up fishing creeks, ponds and gravel pitts which is one reason I like Turf Tanks. The tanks are situated lower than the surrounding terrain and on a really windy day that makes them a good choice. I fished from 2 pm to 7. I found 17 fish from 2 to 5 lbs that liked the swimming worm I was using. One blasted a buzz bait. It was hot, it was windy, but it was fun.

Help me. I have never been that sucessful at Turf Tanks. I think I’m too concerned about losing lures. Where do you throw you baits? Deep? In the thick brush?

I’ve fished Turf Tanks when they were completely flooded and when the water was exteremly low; neither time being very sucessful. What was the water level like when you went? Where did you catch your fish? Deep? In the brush? Having gravel pit experience, what do you recommend as water levels drop?

The main tank at Turf is only 12 or 14 ft deep, max., so to me - that is shallow. These fish will bite most of the basic stuff but weeds will determine what you can throw. I’ve caught some of my biggest on buzz baits there but soft stick baits, spinner baits, worms and topwaters will always get you bit. Just like on any other water you sometimes have to be patient and persistent. Stay with them until they turn on and you find the right lure.
