My brother, nephew and father celebrated my father’s 75th birthday on May 3rd weekend. We had a blast! The facilities and scenic beauty are second to none at Hidden Springs, and the fishing was good as well. I didn’t do the math till today but I believe my father caught exactly 75 fish on his 75th birthday weekend. What a way to celebrate a birthday (beats scoring your age in golf any day!)
Weather was great. Fishing was great and fellowship with family was great. All in all we caught 266 fish in a day and a half and had a few nicer fish in the mix as well. 130 bass were harvested so the fishing for bigger fish should be on the increase. Top waters were the ticket for the early morning and late evenings and soft plastics were the go-to lures for the remaining period. Fish here seem to prefer pumpkin seed or gourd green to watermelon and variants. When my supply of those two colors of flukes was gone, bite fell off noticeably.Surprisingly there were still a few fish on beds. Most fish were caught fairly shallow.
