Fished SW for the first time last Saturday. Used the boat which was in good shape. However in 2+ hours of fishing I did not get one bite despite trying everything in my box. Usual for a PWF location…

Lots of bass were jumping for insects so perhaps a fly rod would have done the trick. Nice site though so I will give it another try.

My son and I fished there on 6/20 for about 5 hours.  We had similar luck.  We boated 3 around 16” using a swim bait.  LOTS of bass hitting insects on the surface, but would not touch our topwaters.  Great looking lake.  I agree that a fly fisherman would probably clean up.  Boat was good, nice property.  Will try it again.

Hello all,

I am going to be fishing SW Lake Weston on Saturday the 26th.  I see that there have been some reports that were not too favorable.  Does anyone have any advice or experience with fishing this lake that have had good luck-if so, what would you recommend?

I would think that fishing the deeper parts of the lake would be best this time of year maybe with a carolina rig or even Texas rigged worm down deep where the cooler water is.  Thanks for any advice-

Brad,

Saturday will be overcast, and that may help alot.  I anchored and tried texas rigs and jigs in the deep areas with no luck, but that does not mean you won’t tear them up.  My 3.5” money minnow caught my fish, but only 3.  They were in the weeds along the west shore line.  I had no action in the brushpiles except the one by the boat, where I caught my first fish.  They are in there, they drive you mad popping insects and breaking water chasing baitfish!  Just have to find what they want.

Good luck, and let us know how you do.

Had similar results a couple of weeks ago albeit fished during the heat and into the evening.  Finally landed a couple of healthy fat fish on a texas rig, pink bubblegum worm.  One at the NE corner and one from the posted brush pile in the middle.  Would have never purchased those but for reading the reports of PWF—so thanks for the recommendation.  Nice looking lake with good location.  Agree that they are there and like the challenge so will go back to find what works.
