Big fish were biting again at Yates

Went back out to Yates' Place after my successful outing last time.  This trip was no different.  Shad were EVERYWHERE so any bait that resembled a shad eventually got bit.  The evening bite was somewhat slow with the largest going five pounds.  At first light the following morning it was a different story.  The fish were feeding on shad so a chatterbait with a money minnow trailer was the ticket.  An eight pounder struck just off of the humps across from the dock (left of the humps 50 feet or so) and I was eager to get a weight so I put her in the livewell to revive her a bit for a photo and to get the scale ready.  One cast later came a six pounder.  Both fish were violent fighters.  The totals for this trip were somewhat lower on total numbers.  I would guess twenty five or thirty if you add the evening and morning together but the five biggest were similar to my report from last month.   The most predictable pattern was to throw shad type baits way up next to the shore and also beating those deep brush piles with soft plastics was a close second.

September rivals January as one of the toughest months of the year to fish, at least for me.  The fish aren't very predictable and seem finiky.  Yet when I look at my last two trips to Yates place, both in the heat of the summer, we caught two over eight pounds, three over six, quite a few fours and fives.  Visiting with Dewayne and Kay was a pleasure as always.  A trip out to Yates' Place is so hard to beat!

Tight Lines,

Jackson
