My son Scott and I, along with 2 guests, fished Saba on 9/19 and 9/20.  Skies were low overcast to rain, but no wind to speak of.  Lake is full and water clarity is about 2 feet in the front and 18" with a chocolate color toward the back of the creeks.  Friday morning, we had a few blow-ups on buzz baits, but no big fish.  Tried Ribbits and Frogs and got a couple along the grass mats before switching to Blue/Chrome Rattle-Traps and spinner baits in the open water. Throughout the day we were switching from Rattle Traps to Spinnerbaits, to Red Eye Shad to Square Bill Cranks to Junebug Senkos, et al. Friday we just could not find a pattern and in total we caught about 50 fish all in the 2-4 pound range with the largest at 4 1/2 lbs.  We did notice that several of the larger fish were thin and not carrying the proportional weight that one would expect.  Several of our fish were 21-24' in length but weighed in at 2 1/2 to 3 lbs.; long and large but quite thin.   If Friday was slow, Saturday was really tough.  Heavy clouds in the morning with some sun working through and then a line of showers.  By afternoon, the skies had cleared considerably to partly cloudy with sunshine and light winds 5-7 mph.  Probably about 25 fish total with the preferred baits being the Chrome Rat Trap and Junebug Senko fished in the creek channels and outside of timber.  No big fish, but those that we caught were all healthy in the 2 1/2 to 4 pound range with weigh proportional to length.  even when the fishing is slow, San Saba is a special place.  The four of us have fished it for 8 yrs or so and we always take away memories of blow-ups, great campfires and good times.
