I fished Ferris Triple J on Monday June 28th around 5 pm. Yes, right when the storms were rolling through the DFW area. Funny thing is, I wanted to go right before a summer storm rolled in to see if Roland Martin knew what he was talking about. I watched one of Roland Martin fishing shows on Saturday and this show was about fishing during the summer before and after a quick storm rolled through. Roland said to use Buzz baits and Frogs, so I did.

First cast with a Black Buzz bait near the new cover that was placed in the lake close to the dam (Thanks Steve) a 5 lb healthy bass. Next cast a 4 lb fat bass. Oh yeah, I had to run to my truck for cover for about 10 min until the lighting passed over. To make a long story short, I caught about 20 bass with 6 over 4lb and missed one big bass that hit my frog 2 feet from the bank (I almost gave that fish my rod and reel because of his violent strike)

I fished from the bank from 5 pm until dark (saw one snake at dark) used only 3 lures Black Buzz Bait, Black Horny Toad Frog and Black 7 inch power worm (used when I missed a strike on top water) and no I didn’t throw the worm when I missed the fish that scared the hell out of me (I was to shaken up, had to regroup) My Black Buzz bait is no longer fishable. The blades were so bent from the fight; I felt if I tried to fix the blade one more time the blade would just break off.

All the fish were healthy, like foot balls, and very hard fighters. Thanks Steve for the new brush piles and yes I guess Roland Martin does know what he was talking about and no I did not kiss any of the fish, nor did I say WHOA SON, not once (I promise) during a fight with a big Bass.  I harvested 6 fish that were about a pound each. The other 14 fish were too big or fat to keep.

Roderick,

Thanks for the kind words, fishing report and your willingness to harvest. Again, I’m glad the fish management is paying off. There have been multiple brush piles (cover) and 130 lbs of Tilapia added to the lake this year. As reported before we are trying to get the average fish size from 2.5 lbs to 3.5 lbs by this time next year.

Steve you’re very welcome. I think the results from the harvesting is really paying off on this lake. Before when I fished this lake, I would have two or three dinks following my spinner bait back to the boat. I used to be so happy when the dinks would come off before I had the chance to lip it so I could continue to cast for a bigger fish. I’ve fished this lake many times with hopes of catching a few crappies, if anyone has ever had any luck with catching a crappie from this lake would you please tell me where to fish for them because I’ve been around this entire lake in my boat searching for the illusive paper mouth without any look. I have caught some nice size blue gills while using jigs for crappie.

Thanks,
Good Luck and Good Fishing
