Fished on successive Tuesday afternoons at Black Hat. On the 14th, a day following a stormy hight, with gusty winds and low to "moderate"  expectations, a buddy and I fished. We had to anchor just to make a cast. We caught fish…...lots of fish…..quality fish. So back we go. But this day was a fisherman's delight. Light winds, fleecy clouds and moderate temps. Nada, zilch, nothing…..lures that produces numbers and quality were left untouched…..narry a nibble, if it wasn't for the great fun of throwing frogs in the lily pads to entice some beautiful explosions and good fish it would have been a true disappointment. So: catching or fishing, tough weather or blue bird skies, quality fish or zilch, true excitement or real frustration…..you choose. May all your trips be a first Tuesday.

i have always noticed one thing in lakes or ponds… the worse the weather, the better they bite.. this has always held true on many years of fishing lake fork.. the worse ,, the better

I'll never forget fishing the old Giddings lakes (pre-PWF, not part of the club now) and catching 100+ fish in one day. Went back 2 weeks later and fished the same lake, same baits, same or similar conditions… beat the water all day and caught one fish. Knowing they were there made it that much more frustrating. One of the best lessons I have ever learned in fishing.

I always know how many fish I'll catch when I'm talking about it and not fishing.

Phillip.  I agree with you 100% when you say:  "the worse the weather, the better they bite."  On a recent trip to a private lake, my fishing buddy hooked into a 6-pounder on his third cast when it was raining cats and dogs.   I took shelter under a shed and watched as he hooked even a larger fish that he couldn't turn as it headed into the depths of the lake.  His only chance of landing that fish would have been to have taken off his boots and swam in with it, but I couldn't goad him into doing it.  Would have been fun to watch, though.  Being from Oregon, fishing was almost always in the rain and I recall many triple hook-ups with fishing buddies as it dumped buckets from the skies.

Spooky, eerie, or just plain weird. We caught a few crappie that were small compared to the slabs from the 1st Tuesday and three bass that were white….looked like they spent to much time in a crappie school. Caught a catfish on a chatter bait (pre-released at the boat) and that’s beyond strange. I think it’s that we’re to close to Halloween.

Philip:  sorry I’m just getting around to responding to your query.  When we moved to Heritage Ranch in 2007, I started a fishing club called FISHING FOR FUN and I became the Fish Commissioner (Commish for short).  We had 6 members.  Today, we have 143 members and a monthly newsletter.  Here at Heritage Ranch, we have a 10-acre lake and a 2-acre lake with bass, catfish and bluegills.  Largest bass caught thus far was 8 lbs. last year.  Would love to wet a line with you sometime.  Give me a call on my cell:  469.236.6722.
