Slot Fish
I took a friend out to Broseco Ranch for the day on Wednesday and I have to agree with what has been posted. We left the lake "early" at around 5:30 pm and felt like we were on the losing end of a fight. Our shoulders hurt, our hands hurt, it was full contact fishing. A cold front had come in which was supposed to shut the fishing down but that wasn't the case. We caught 67 bass, culled 21 that were under 16 inches and had 7 fish over 5 pounds with a 6.23 being the largest. A significant portion of our fish were three and a half to four pounds and fought like a fish much larger than that. The top water bite was on anytime the clouds were out which was quite a bit. I threw a jig at every piece of timber we saw (brown and orange) but finesse fishing caught the most. Anything with treble hooks was difficult because of the stringy grass that is in the shallows but can be done if you'll scoot out a little farther away from the shoreline. One of the highlights of my day was catching my first fish ever on my Lunker Punker. Those of you that don't know, this bait is nothing short of offensive. It's a huge wooden top water bait that outweighs anything else in the tackle box by quite a bit. A five pounder smashed the bait on a cast of about a quarter mile so there was an epic battle all the way to the boat. It was a great day to be on the water and a great day to be a member of PWF. Excellent job Steve for adding such a spectacular lake to our group!
