I fished Lake Side all day today from 7:00 unitl 5:30 for a total of 15 bass and an optimistic bluegill. I had 3 nice, strong bass between 2 and 3 pounds by 7:30, all on a chartreuse/white double-bladed buzz bait. Then it shut down for over an hour when I couldn't buy a strike. Caught one just under 4 pounds at 8:42 on a black/blue flake, wacky-rigged Senko just off the dam. Nothing else until 9:30, when the biggest of the day hit that same Senko off the end of the pier. She was only a 5-03, but she and I both thought she was a lot bigger than that. Those Florida bass do fight hard! During the rest of the day, I caught bass at fairly regular intervals, and other than two dinks, all were between 2-04 and 3.08. Productive baits, other than the buzz bait and wacky-rigged Senkos, were a magnum River2Sea Spittin' Wa frog, a chartreuse shad Rat-L-Trap, and a watermelon/red fleck Senko, also weightless and wacky-rigged. Four of the better bass all came from the same brushpile - the one just south of the pier. No luck on creature baits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, or topwaters. The bluegill hit an old, 5/8 oz Hula Popper. The water was very clear - I'd guess the visibility was at least 7 feet. Water temps rose from 74° to 84° during the day. I just hope I do as well tomorrow at Black Hat.
