Slot Fish
hey guys! my daughter and I had a great time at neill ranch on 11/15/15 (my trial trip). we got lucky with the weather; a little windy most of the day but very comfortable temp-wise and no rain. it had been about a year since my daughter's last trip, so she struggled at first (missing fish), but got better and better as the day went on.
total fish caught: 38
over 14": 7 (3 were over 3 pounds including a 3.7 and a 3.6)
less than 14": 17
crappie: 14 (most were around a pound or so)
the water temp varied from 59-61 and the lake was right at the spillway level. the fish were not skinny, but I wouldn't call them fat either.
we only had caught 7 at noon; but after lunch we figured out what they wanted. for the day, we got one on a topwater, 2 on a buzzbait, 2 on a white squarebill, and the rest on weightless watermelon flukes.
most were caught in 5-8 feet of water over the weed beds. we wanted to try the brush in front of the dam, but the wind was blowing too hard.
