My son and I fished 9G on Saturday, 4/16/16. It was windy and cloudy. The north end of the lake was very windy and the water was very muddy, with a lot of snot grass and coontail. I caught a couple two pounders at the north end of the dam on top water early (throwing the new Spro jointed rat, just to try it out). My son was getting bored after two hours without a bite, when I spotted some 2 pounders in the much clearer water on the southeastern side of the lake up shallow. I pointed them out to him and told him to throw his wacky rigged senko into the middle of them. He immediately got a bite on his 8lb test spinning rod. When the fish started stripping line, I thought I must have forgot to tighten his drag. Then I saw the fish come up and realized I needed to grab the net! He landed his new personal best, a 5.5 lb beauty, pictured- no small feat on that light of tackle! We caught 20 total. Only 3 were under 14", and even they were chunky and hard fighting for their size. The other 16 were all from 2 to 3.5 lbs and my 10 year old caught the second biggest fish (3.5lbs) as well. I was glad to "lose" to my partner for the day. We caught them mostly on the wacky rigged watermelon senko and a watermelon red green swim senko with a nail weight. We had a blast, and the lake proved it had very high quality fish. He got a kick out of spooking the many huge carp with the boat too. A great day fishing with my boy that we won't soon forget!
