I fished Fannin Farms on the afternoon of Friday, April 22. The lake is very high, and the launch area was extremely muddy. At $1 per pound, I could have bought a new Whopper Plopper with the east Texas red clay from my driver side floor mat alone! Anyway, the water was way back in the brush and trees, and I was totally unable to present a lure properly to the bigger fish I could hear sloshing around back in the timber. I can't remember how many little ones I caught, but my best estimate is around 30 - only 4 fish longer than 14". A few fell for a Senko, but most of them hit either a white single-spin or a T-rigged 4" black Phenom worm. I did miss a few hollow-body frog strikes. Didn't even look at the water temp on my Humminbird. My guess of visibility is about a foot. There was a man opening the gate in front of me, who I assumed was a handyman or something about to do some work on the cabin. He left the gate open for me. When I got to the cabin, he was rigging up 3 or 4 rods to fish. When I explained to him that I had paid to fidsh and what our club policy is, he asked if I wanted him to leave. When I politely said "Yes, please," he said he would, and then proceeded to show me where the landowner's son caught a 10-pounder last year. He then left, smiling, saying he would just fish a pond by the owner's house. It's a beautifu, secluded property, but the lake surely could use some harvesting.
