Slot Fish
Some days you hit it just right. Fly fishing member Tom Blailock and I fished Grapeland Thursday June 9 from around 9AM to 4PM. The water level was still covering the dock but was down about a foot since our visit in May. The weather was hot, partly sunny and calm with an occasional breeze. Water clarity was good. We caught fish all day and probably boated around 40. Active baits included assorted fly fishing lures, Chatterbaits, Wave Worms, and the winner of the day was a Chrome Blue Rattletrap. As the water was still high,we fished the flooded grass the same as last month, but the fish now had also extended out into the submerged grass up to 50 feet from the banks. The highlight of the day came about 4 PM when that Rattletrap hooked two 5s and a 4 within 10 minutes of each other. The first fish appeared to go for the lure just as it hit the water. Lots of fun.
We brought along a 1x4 piece of lumber that helped secure Tom's troll motor to the transom on the lake boat. It appeared to work fine.

We fished Grapeland back in April and we had a great day as well. I think we boated around 30 fish in five hours. Four of five of those were between 3-4 pounds and my son caught a 7.5 pounder, which is still his PB. We both are eager to get back to this awesome lake. Sounds like you guys had a great time as well.
