Fellow member Bob Scheidemann and I fished Thompson Ranch on the morning of the 26th. The pond was absolutely calm when we arrived at dawn and there wasn’t a breath of wind until after 10 AM. Water clarity was good, stained but not muddy at all. Vegetation growth is vigorous, both in the water and at the bank.
We caught 36 bass by 10:30 with 7 harvested. The first highlight of the day was an extended vigorous topwater bite (26 bass landed) that lasted until 9:30. During that bite, I caught a 7lb-6oz and a 6lb-6oz, one each on Pop-R and buzz bait. We each caught several 4 to 5 lb bass as well. A Spook Jr, Pop-R, or buzz bait worked well while a frog resulted in many explosions but few hook-ups.
The other highlight was Bob’s new PB, a 9lb-12 oz pig that inhaled a crank bait after the topwater bite died.
Interestingly, the deeper water near the dam didn’t produce and most of the harvested bass were on worms.

John. Great report. I have my PWF PB at that property several years ago. I think it was almost 9# and also caught on a crank bait.
