A buddy and I fished Lake Side Tuesday morning. Hooked up the jon boat and trailer to the truck and no lights. Fooled around and finally changed to my friend's truck and with only a few more "hick-up" headed to the lake. Got there later then we'd hoped and found the lake like glass….. Not a breath of wind. What the heck, we're here, the cows are up, and there's fishing to be done. Pads are getting thicker but the weeds are very manageable. Water was not as clear as in the past and may be down a foot. Worked the edges of the pads with frogs, plastic and then got our first fish on a chatter bait, @ 2 1/2 lbs. My buddy kept at the plastics much to his disappointment. Nothing doing. I caught two more on the chatter bait but action was slow. Decided to go with "kitchen sink" approach and finally found one crank bait that did the trick. Five really good fish to 6 lbs. Strong and in the air, WOW. You couldn't just crank these ladies, it took patience to get them to the boat. As I said, big and strong, but not "fat"... no real girth and I don't know if that's significant at this time of the year.  Then bang, big hit and no moving this fish, working to keep tension and dang….. broken off. Of course this was the biggest fish of the day (even though we never saw her) but that's the rule…. The one that got away was huge!  OH and with that crank bait gone…. not another bite. It's the rule…  but hey its "Time on the water."
