Took the wife to Lake Side on Saturday (10/15) for a day of fall fishing.  Mother Nature gave us a hot one, with lots of wind.  High was probably around 90, and with no trees to block the south wind, we were seeing whitecaps on the north end of the lake.  The water temps ranged from 74.5 to 78.0, and clarity was very good.  The lake is a foot or two low.  The weeds are manageable and grow out to about 7' deep.  The water in the lily pads is pretty shallow due to the lake level.

We combined to boat 22 bass and 1 crappie; 7 small bass and the crappie ended up in my freezer.  The largest was a 7-03 brute that tried her best to get away.  The rest of the "overs" were in the 3-5 poiund class and very healthy.

We caught fish all over the lake, but only 1 came out of the lily pads.  The shoreline across from the cabin was very productive, as was the brushpile to the north of the pier.  FYI, we ate lunch tied up to the pier on the north side in the shade, and my down imaging showed a massive amount of fish below us.  i tied on a crappie jig, and sure enough caught a big crappie.  I think you could sit there and catch crappie until you got tired.   Best bass baits were chartreuse/white buzzbait and a purple firetail texas rig worm.  We got exactly zero hits on frogs/chugbug/whopper plopper/spook.  Weird.

Beautiful lake and cabin, but with nothing to stop the wind, you have to be prepared for that.

Purple (Grape) firetail worm. Going old school. Grape/firetail and Grape/whitetail from the Barlow's worm bar was all I used in high school and college. Brought back some good memories.

Me too!  I caught a lot of fish on those 20-30 years ago.  So, I started using them again about 6 months ago; I figured that the bass were getting tired of seeing watermelon all the time, so I tried something they have not seen recently.  Works for me.
