Our drive across the pasture gave us the feeling of the Oklahoma land rush. We were seeking to find the water to fish. We used Apple Maps app GPS to guide us to the launch area. The word “Tushka” means “warrior”. We painted our faces with SPF50 and launched our canoe (12’ new jon boat provided by Private Water Fishing).
The weapon today was the Ribbit frog watermelon. Jason shot a single Gamakatsu hook while I used a Double take frog hook. I did manage to catch a few on a red shad senko and a ½ ounce white spinner. The red shad time was to give my arms a rest. Trying to keep up with a young’in when your old doesn’t work. He is like a machine while throwing that top water.
Being on new hunting grounds we started to fish the creek fingers at the south end. We managed to find the Bass in groups of three to five. Once we fished the fingers we moved North to new water. Directly across from the launch area is a white tent structure. The water in this area is what I would call the flats. It was alive with 3 and 4 pound Bass. In those flats not only throw to the shore but shoot some out to the tree line in the open water. Explosion after Explosion as we threw those Ribbits into the water. If you missed throw again as these Bass are forgiving. They demanded that you give them a second chance.
Ended the day with 30 maybe closer to 50 Bass. We only had to harvest two bass. More 3 and 4 pounders than 2 pounders.
What a great lake larger than I thought when viewing from google earth. The water is crystal clear and loaded with all kinds of lay downs and timber. We were using 14 lb. Fireline and never had a break off.
Saw 5 deer on the way out and the ride from Grapevine, TX. To the gate was exactly 2 hours.
With this warm weather we are having this fall I bet you have at least 3 or 4 more good weeks before the fish move in the deeper creek channels.
A note for the upcoming Spring. On the side of the lake with the flats and the tent there are numerous old spawning beds. So for those who have patience to bed fish, I just gave you a present.
