John Bedore and I had a good day fishing Neill Ranch on April 1st. What a beautiful property! The lake is very clear and not so much vegetation as to take the full arsenal of lures out of the mix. We enjoyed near perfect conditions with a nice breeze and air temperatures ranging from 62 to 83 degrees, Water temperature was between 71 and 75 for the day. We enjoyed seeing lots of geese and other birds all around the lake including one goose who was tending eggs on the island in the middle of the lake.
As to the fishing we found that most of the fish were in 7-12 feet of water and did best with crankbaits fished erratically and small swimbaits fished fairly steadily. We caught a good number of bass with about equal numbers of unders as overs. Many of the unders were decent fish (very few true dinks). We saw as many beds while fishing Neill Ranch as any lake we have fished on the club. There were beds everywhere. We did catch some fish while fishing near the beds but most of our best fishing was in water too deep to see the beds.
We didn't catch any giants and our two biggest fish were caught on our first fish of the day and the last fish of the day.
