Took my first trip to Lake Leon this week with a friend of mine.  We fished a half day on Monday and all day on Tuesay. We stayed in the house on the property Monday night.  The accomodations are great. Very clean property and it’s all there for you. Tom, the owner, took very good care of use while we were there.  He is a great guy. They do an amazing job managing this property. This is an amazing place to go for a couple of days to get away.  The cell phone don’t work at the lake, so it’s just you, the fish, the deer, and a couple hundred ducks. It is 3 miles from the front gate to the lake on the dirt road. That is seclusion.

The fishing Monday was outstanding. We caught about 50 with most in the 2-3lb range with a few 4’s mixed in. The largest was a 7.5 lb bass that had to be the prettiest one I have every seen.  The weather changed a little overnight and the bite was not as strong on Tuesday. We fished about 7 hours on Tuesday and caught about 40 bass.  The water temp was 66 degrees and the water clarity was outstanding. Dark clear water with visability of 3-4 feet.  We caught most of the fish on plastics; purple worms and frogs. Steve said this was the best frog lake in the club and there is no doubt about it. They seemed to prefer the black frog over any other color.

I will definitely go back to this property.  Tom said they normally close the lake over the hunting season, but this year he is allowing fishing during the week. I would recommend a trip before it gets too cold. The property is full of deer, so just sitting on the porch at the end of the day watching them at the feeder is kind of cool.

Great report. Everybody note the way Bill is holding the fish. (supporting the weight of the fish with his right hand) And I know Bill dipped his right hand in the lake prior to holding the fish. I love to see big fish handled the correct way. Leon is a great lake. Take a look at our member photo section to see all the giant bass caught out of this lake.

The other thing about this lake is that most of the lake is 4-7 feet deep, making almost the whole lake fishable.  The owner also said that this lake kicks off early in the year with the water depth being what it is following a few warm days.

There was a 12.2 caught in mid February about 3 years ago. It was probably not a bedding fish as it was caught on a red rattletrap, but obviously full of eggs.
